West Virginia's Promise Thanks Jennifer Garner!
West Virginia's Promise - The Alliance for Youth is grateful to receive a $10,000 donation from the Jennifer Garner Trust Foundation. The donation will be used to match AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers with local groups that serve children in the summer.
In March, Morgan Weister, a West Virginia's Promise AmeriCorps VISTA, submitted a request to Jennifer Garner; a well-known actress, entrepreneur and fellow West Virginian from the Charleston area. The request focused on
West Virginia's Promise Summer Associate Program.
Summer Associate AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers serve at nonprofit organizations, schools, and state agencies to provide the Five Promises to children and youth. The Five Promises are: Caring Adults, Safe Places, A Healthy Start, An Effective Education and Opportunities to Help Others. The VISTA volunteers facilitate education programming to prevent summer learning loss for students, STEM programming, reading, arts, healthy futures, gardening, and summer feeding sites. In exchange, the AmeriCorps VISTAS receive a small living-allowance and money for school.
West Virginia's Promise thanks Jennifer Garner and all those involved in this tremendous act of kindness. The program recognizes this as a blessing and is ecstatic and ready to take on the remainder of 2020, alongside their remarkable supporters.
"Being a woman of West Virginia heritage, Jennifer Garner shares the same passion and values when it comes to community and youth development," said Pam Dugan, West Virginia's Promise Statewide Director. "We are so grateful for Jennifer Gardner and I am proud of our AmeriCorps VISTA Morgan Weister for making this happen!"
