The Preservation Alliance of West Virginia announces organizational partnership opportunities through its Preserve WV AmeriCorps program. The Preserve WV AmeriCorps program is the Preservation Alliance’s statewide national service initiative where AmeriCorps members help main streets thrive, help communities capture their local history, and help preserve beloved West Virginia landmarks. Nonprofit organizations and government agencies are eligible to sponsor a paid AmeriCorps member for a contractual period beginning in April 2022 and ending on December 31, 2022.

"We are actively seeking history and place-based organizations that are working on historic preservation projects and are wanting to work more within their community but need extra help to really achieve these goals. AmeriCorps members provide vital service to their communities and we want to expand into more West Virginia counties to preserve more of the Mountain State’s unique cultural resources," explained Danielle Parker, the executive director for the alliance.

AmeriCorps members are catalysts for change within partner organizations. They take on projects to promote cultural heritage tourism, place-based education, and community development. Site sponsors usually have history-related missions such as, historical sites, museums, historic landmarks commissions, main street organizations, and historical societies, but other organizations are also eligible.

In addition to site sponsorship opportunities, the Alliance is also accepting applications for paid AmeriCorps site placements. Current openings are with organizations including the City of Ronceverte’s Museum, the Cockayne Farmstead in Marshall County, the Harrison County WV Historical Society in Clarksburg, the Kanawha Salines Foundation in Kanawha County, the Sutton Community Development Corporation, and the WVU BAD Buildings program at the Northern WV Brownfields Assistance Center. The Preservation Alliance of West Virginia is the statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation. The Preserve WV AmeriCorps is part of AmeriCorps State and National – a National Service initiative founded in the same spirit as AmeriCorps VISTA, the Peace Corps, and other service programs. Preserve WV AmeriCorps is partially funded by an AmeriCorps grant from Volunteer West Virginia and AmeriCorps Headquarters.
