This summer our dear friend Julie Keehner, a Volunteer West Virginia Commissioner, had the opportunity to visit the High Rocks AmeriCorps Program. Here is her story and a few photographs from her trip!
High Rocks, which began in 1996 as a residential summer camp on a mountainside in Hillsboro, West Virginia, experienced yet another successful season. These photos demonstrate their
"classrooms without walls" where girls realize their potential by working with horses, gardening and further developing their skills in math, writing and public speaking. High Rocks also provides "garden to table" meals from their impressive gardens. And, all of these programs are supported by several skilled and dedicated AmeriCorps members who make a difference every summer!
