Does your organization want to start an AmeriCorps program?

Volunteer West Virginia, the State’s Commission for National and Community Service, is now accepting applications for 2018-2019 AmeriCorps program funding. Non-profits, educational institutions, and state and local government agencies are encouraged to apply to receive funding to develop an AmeriCorps program.

“Now, more than ever, West Virginia organizations could use an extra set of hands,” said Heather Foster, Executive Director of Volunteer West Virginia. “National Service programs like AmeriCorps could be a great fit.”

Through this funding process, Volunteer West Virginia seeks to expand National Service opportunities in after-school and children’s programming, and programs located in the Southern Coalfields, especially Logan, Boone, Lincoln, and Mingo Counties, and in north central West Virginia. West Virginia ranks third in the Nation for producing AmeriCorps volunteers. Each year over 1,100 individuals serve as AmeriCorps members in the state. Many AmeriCorps volunteers serve in their hometowns, while others come from across the country to make West Virginia their home for the year. AmeriCorps members change lives through mentoring, increase access to healthy and local food, preserve historic properties, and more.

AmeriCorps programs do more than move West Virginia communities forward; they help AmeriCorps members develop careers and provide pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. In exchange for a year of service, volunteers receive a living-allowance, money for school, and work experience.

Click here to view The AmeriCorps Notice of Funding Opportunity. An in-person technical assistance meeting will be held on January 30th starting at 4 pm at the Holiday Inn-South Charleston. During that time, organizations will have an opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance about the grant process.
