About this Position
This position is a great opportunity for a dedicated, passionate leader to make an impact in West Virginia. The successful candidate will be an experienced leader and visionary.  Volunteer West Virginia is a small state agency based in Charleston, WV with a dedicated, talented and creative staff. It is a part of the WV Division of Arts, Culture and History. 

The agency administers approximately $6 million in federal and state funding each year.

The Executive Director will
  • Manage relationships with state and federal agencies
  • Support staff in improving grantee compliance, training and technical assistance
  • Support staff in developing and maintaining community focused volunteer programs
  • Provide leadership and vision for National Service and volunteer programming statewide
  • Develop strategic partnerships with statewide nonprofit, service and government agencies that align with the organization’s goals
  • Develop and implement a state service plan 
  • Assess and strengthen the organization’s fiscal systems and internal controls
  • Engage and support Governor-appointed board members and other volunteer committees
  • Prevent, detect, enforce and respond to compliance issues identified at all levels
  • Work across partnerships to support disaster volunteers

The Executive Director is supported by the WV Department of Arts, Culture and History and a bi-partisan Board of Commissioners, which is responsible for the hiring and supervision of the Executive Director.

The successful candidate will
  • Have experience administering a complex budget that includes federal and/or state funding
  • Have at least 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Be familiar with National Service programs
  • Be able to work independently
  • Be self-motivated, hands-on, and organized 
  • Be positive, approachable and flexible
  • Enjoy the challenges and demands of a growing and evolving service organization

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
